The value chain between the sawmill yard and the final use at the construction site contains many links. Brokers, distributors and retailers each derive revenue and profits from their respective roles. These companies do not change the state of the wood product, but merely provide a variety of services related to market access. The wood product remains in the same packaging and form the day it leaves the mill yard through to when it us unbundled for installation in the building.
Therefore, the progressive market access system removes many links in this value chain. This will provide an opportunity for improved revenues for the First Nations forest products producers and improved cost efficiencies for First Nations community building projects.
